Racial Identification for the Self-Reported Hispanic or Latino Population: 2010 and 2020 Census (U.S. Census Bureau)

Sometimes the strongest evidence is the government’s own table. The Census Bureau’s comparison of 2010 and 2020 answers shows single-race identification among Hispanic respondents falling from 81.6% to under 57.8% in a single decade, with 43.6% choosing Some Other Race or skipping the race question entirely. No advocacy group produced these numbers; the bureau published them about itself. They are the official record that the old boxes were not describing the people filling them out, which is the fact every ME/RG conversation ultimately rests on.
