Pew Research asked the question the census never quite manages, and the answer was six million: that is how many US adults identify as Afro-Latino, about 12% of adult Latinos. One finding deserves its own headline: roughly one in seven Afro-Latinos does not identify as Hispanic at all, which means the standard forms miss them twice. The report landed almost exactly when this site’s updates stopped. Six million neighbors the checkboxes keep missing, finally counted by someone who thought to ask directly.
